Upper Elementary School Building Re-purposing Meeting
A meeting has been scheduled by Superintendent Eileen Grant-Ball to solicit input from the school and community regarding the re-purposing of the Upper Elementary School Building.
The meeting will be on Monday, 02 August,5:30pm-6:15pm. All those interested should meet in the courtyard outside the Upper Elementary School. Discussion of the intent to form this Committee will take place followed by a tour of the building.
This initial meeting would be to establish a community group with interested members who will come up with a feasible plan for the management and utilization of that historical building.
Part of the District's goal must be to remove it from our financial responsibility since cannot afford to keep it empty.
The timeframe of this Community group would be approximately one year (August, 2010 to on/before June 30, 2010 to bring to the Superintendent a viable recommendation of how to potentially re-purpose that building. That recommendation will then be presented to the District Board of Education Long Range Planning and Negotiations Committee and ultimately to the full Board of Education for their possible approval.
After this time, if there is no viable recommendation or plan presented to the Superintendent and accepted, then as a full Board, they will have to make a tough decision on what to do with the Upper Elementary Building up to,or including, razing.
Recognizing that this is a community historical building, we hope that through this committee, and subsequent community forums, with many people involved and giving input, a suitable use could be realized.
